As a Maintenance Assistant in a Nursing/ Care Home setting you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and well presented environment, by carrying out general maintenance in the home and grounds.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:  

1. Follow instructions for required repairs.
2. Carry out repairs in accordance to local procedures. 
3. Identify and gain approval for additional work.
4. Carry out landscaping and grounds maintenance.
5. Liaise with contractors and monitor work.
6. Promote and carry out safe and effective maintenance practices.
7. Adhere to the Health and Safety at Work Act.
8. Monitor and carry out risk assessment.
9. Carry out weekly health and safety checks.
10. Assist with deep cleaning duties.
11. Ensure accurate records of daily work.
12. Re-order supplies within agreed budget.
13. Avoid waste to control costs.
14. Advise residents of the progress of work.
15. Deal with residents questions politely and helpfully.
16. Ensure that all work meets the required quality standards.
17. Identify and report any potential maintenance issues.
18. Respect privacy and dignity of residents.

Qualifications in building/ electrical/ plumbing (City & Guilds, BTEC, ONC, HNC etc)/ Health & Safety(NEBOSH certificate, CIEH Advanced Health & Safety, Fire Trainer, COSHH trainer etc) are desirable but not essential.

Essential skills and experience include:

1. Practical experience in operating hand tools and appropriate machinery.
2. Practical skill in identifying and/or carrying out minor repairs.
3. Good communication skills including clear written and spoken English.
4. Sympathetic to the needs of older people.
5. Hands-on experience in property maintenance and general repair.
6. Good understanding of building services including; heating, hot and cold water distribution, ventilation, electrical distribution and plumbing.
7. Practical experience of planned maintenance systems and record keeping.
8. Experience in project management and control of contractors.
9. Practical ability and experience in painting and decorating.
10. Ability to work well within a team.

Posts are available on a permanent basis working Monday to Friday. 

Full on the job training is provided as required.  Previous experience as a maintenance assistant is is essential, experience in a care setting is desirable.
