“I’m paralysed from the waist down and have lived in a Galleon Care Home for eight years. Being wheelchair bound, I need the assistance of two carers; the staff here are very supportive, they assist me with all aspects of personal care and support me in living a fulfilled life. They’re also patient and understanding.

I enjoy my own company – watching TV and reading the newspaper – the Activities Co-ordinator and staff encourage me to go on regular outings, but if I choose not to that’s fine, as I sometimes prefer watching my programmes and reading.  I do however participate in the in-house activities provided such as bingo, movie events and singing entertainment. The main thing is that the staff respect my views and preferences.

Staff have done an assessment and put care plans in place for me, which I read and sign off to indicate that I’m okay with everything. I have a review by the home monthly to see that everything is going well with my care and that I’m happy.”
